It was probably inevitable that Shark (by far Dysons biggest rival in the vacuum provider market) would look on with envy and start formulating plans of their own after their rival entered the hair dryer market and set all kinds of records with the massive selling Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. Its kind of surprising that its took Shark this long to dive in. Its also inevitable that a lot of buyers first thought will be “is it better than the Dyson Supersonic?”. If it is just a quick answer to that exact question that has landed you on this page then let us give you that answer. No, the Dyson Supersonic is a better hair dryer than the Shark Style Hyperair. Hang on a minute though as there are many other factors to consider here.
The Shark iQ Hyperair is an excellent hair dryer. Its well balanced, powerful and provides excellent results without damaging your hair. Its styling concentrator and diffuser both work well and the feature of the dryer that automatically sets the optimum heat and airflow when you attach any of those 2 attachments is a nice feature. When you try and search online for any information about the Shark Hyperair, you inevitably find constant comparisons to the Dyson Supersonic. Its understandable considering they are rivals in things like the vacuum market. What we think it will come down to is this. The Dyson Supersonic is a bit better than the Shark Hyperair. Thing is, the Hyperair is around half the price of the Supersonic. Thats a BIG selling point for Shark. Its up to you to decide whether you want to pay double the price for the vey best.
Shark Style iQ Black Ionic Hairdryer
As we said above, its inevitable that a lot of buyers first thought will be “is it better than the Dyson Supersonic?”. It might be a bit unfair for Shark but thats the reality the Hyperair faces. Lets get stuck in.
Who is this product for?
Although this is just our opinion, we think its fairly obvious at first glance that Shark have taken a lot of ideas from the Dyson Supersonic. Its the same kind of shape, the button placements are in similar positions, both claim that their technology dries hair fast and without any hair damage. They even have the exact same 1600w of power in their dryers. We believe that Shark are marketing the Style iQ Hyperair as an alternative to the Dyson Supersonic at a much lower price.
What’s included?
Inside the box you will find the Shark Style iQ hair dryer, a 2-in-1 styling concentrator plus diffuser. It also comes with a handy small brush that is used to clean the filter at the back of the dryer. Last but not least is the product instructions. As readers will know, we are always a fan of diffusers being included with the initial hair dryer purchase so plus marks to Shark for that one.
Overview of features
So the Shark Style iQ Hyperair packs quite the punch and comes with all the bells and whistles you would expect from a hair dryer at the higher end of the price bracket. It really is crazy the amount of settings and features that companies are squeezing into small dryers like this these days.

Recommended Alternatives
We understand that the product we are reviewing may not fit the bill of what you are looking for so we like to also try recommend some relevant alternatives. In the case of the Shark Hyperair, we mention the Dyson Supersonic throughout this review so we will add that. We also added 2 dryers that are in a similar price range.
Our Final Verdict
To start our verdict we would just like to try clear up some confusion we see online in regards to the pricing of this hair dryer. When it was released, it was priced around £230 in most places. Unlike the Dyson Supersonic that has went up in price (yikes!) during the cost of living crisis, the Shark Hyperair has steadily been coming down in price. Click our “Check Current Price On Amazon” below to see what price it is at when you read this. You should be getting it somewhere under £200. That’s a big win for Shark in our book.
The drying times, no matter what hair type you have, are some of the best we have seen. Its lightweight and very comfy to hold and use. Its also perfect for anyone who has problems with dry and damaged hair. The attachments auto adjusting the temperature when attached to give you optimal and safe drying temperatures are a great feature and work surprisingly well. We are sure you will be happy with the smooth and frizz free finish this dryer produces.
So we are pleased to say the Shark HyperAir is a very good first hair dryer from Shark. Folk will inevitably compare it to the Dyson Supersonic as they are major rivals in other product industries. The HyperAir might not reach the quality of the Supersonic but we don’t think that was the intention. The HyperAir is around half the price and this needs to be taken into account. Shark have created an excellent hair dryer at a very reasonable price. Do not hesitate in purchasing this hair dryer as we are sure you will not regret it.
