Tresemme are a company known for their hair care products and were created in New York in 1947 by the Godefroy Manufacturing Company. Like a lot of the big hair care companies, they originally only provided their products to the professional beauty industry but as they became more popular they expanded into supermarkets and other shops. They have also had a couple of different owners. In 1968 the company was purchased by Alberto-Culver, a hair care company also based in America. Then in 2010 a company named Unilever purchased Alberto-Culver and at the time of writing this are still the company that owns Tresemme. I would guess that when most people think of Tresemme they think more about their shampoo & conditioner ranges. Their hair gels and styling sprays are also popular in the UK but they do also make electrical items like straighteners and hair dryers.
The first thing you should know about Tresemme hair dryers is they are very cheap. Tresemme have obviously targeted their hair dryers at people who just want a cheap hair dryer that does the job. They leave hair dryers with all the bells and whistles to other brands and have cornered the cheap and cheerful market. Unless you are buying a gift set, you probably wont be paying much more than £20 on any of the dryers we are reviewing today. The problem we had is at this low price there really is not much difference between each item but we will try our best. Lets get started.

Tresemme Hair Dryer Reviews
Tresemme Fast Dry 2000w Hair Dryer
So the first product we are going to be reviewing is the Tresemme Fast Drying 2000w hair dryer. At the time of writing this article, this is the number one highest selling hair dryer on the UK version of Amazon. We do not mean the number one selling Tresemme hair dryer, we literally mean this is the number one selling out of every hair dryer brand. Guess this kind of tells us the majority of people just want a basic cheap hair dryer then.
Product Highlights
So lets have a look at all its features :
- Nozzle Included
- Accessible filter to clean
- 2000 Watts of power
- 2 different power & speed settings with cool button
- 1.8 meter power cable
- 3 year guarantee
Tresemme state on the box that this dryer is “lightweight & Compact” without actually giving you the exact weight. We can tell you this dryer weighs 510g though. It is very light.
What we liked about the Fast Dry 2000w
What’s not to like about the Fast Dry 200w
So we know at this price a hair dryer is gonna have some negatives. The 1.8 meter power cable feels very short. The cool shot button is more like less warm than the normal settings and you also have to hold the button down as you use it rather than just being able to switch it over to a cool setting. Its also not very powerful and its not gonna dry thick hair lightning quick but you get what you pay for.
Pros
Cons
- Lightweight at 510g
- Very low price
- 3 year guarantee
- Small 1.8 meter Power Cable
- Wont be strong enough for some people
- Have to hold in cool button
Tresemme 5543U Salon Professional Hair Dryer With Diffuser
Product Highlights
So the Tresemme 5543U Salon Professional is the most expensive hair dryer out of the ones we are reviewing here. It can be had for a little over £20 at the time of writing. Here are its features:
- 2200w of power
- Included Diffuser
- Ionic technology included
- 2.4 meter power cable
- 3 heat & speed settings with cool shot
- 3 year guarantee
What we liked about the 5543U Salon Pro
So with this being the most expensive Tresemme hair dryer on our list we will be expecting it to be better than the cheaper ones. Straight away the 2.4 meter power cable is a welcome addition over the models than only have 1.8 metres. If you have curly hair then the included diffuser will also come in handy. We also weighed it and can confirm its lightweight at only 580g. Has enough power to dry hair fast enough but see below.
What we did not like about the 5543U Salon Pro
So straight away we will point out there is not much difference between the different heat & speed settings. The lower setting feels just as warm as the high setting. The Ionic technology does fight the frizz and give you a smoother finish than a dryer without but you of course see better results with more expensive brands. You also have to hold in the cold button as you use it. For the price though its a pretty decent hair dryer.
Pros
Cons
- Good price for features
- 2200w of power
- Ionic technology
- Comes with diffuser
- 2.4 meter power cable
- Lightweight at 580 grams
- 3 year warranty
- Feels like it runs at same temperature no matter what setting its on
- Have to hold in cool button
Tresemme Salon Power Dry 2000 Hair Dryer
Product Highlights
Again this is another very low priced hair dryer from Tresemme. You should be able to pick up the Salon Power Dry for well under £20. Features include:
- 2000w of power
- 2 heat & speed settings with cool button
- Ceramic Grille Technology
- 1.8 meter power cable
- 3 year guarantee
What we liked about the Salon Power Dry
Again this Tresemme hair dryer is lightweight at under 600g and feels pretty small to hold. Considering its weight and size it actually produces a quite good blast of power from it which pleased us.
What we did not like about the Salon Power Dry
Straight away the 1.8 meter power cable is short and may cause you problems depending on how much space you have to use. It also only comes with 2 speed & heat settings. Its a basic bare bones hair dryer but it will do the job.
Pros
Cons
- Good quality for price
- 2000w of power
- Lightweight at under 600 grams
- 3 year manufacturers guarantee
- Short 1.8 meter power cable
- Only 2 speed & heat settings
Tresemme 5542DU Power Smooth 2000 Hair Dryer
Product Highlights
Lastly we come to the Tresemme 5542DU Power Smooth and Shine. This is probably the most well known of all the Tresemme dryers. Currently priced well under £20 so its as cheap as the rest. Features are:
- 2200w Power Motor
- 2 heat & speed settings with cool setting too
- Ionic technology for frizz
- Tourmaline-ceramic feature
- 2.4 meter power cable
- Lightweight at 500g
- 3 year warranty
What we like about the 5542DU Power Smooth
Considering it is the oldest hair dryer in our list and can be picked up for under £20, we were pleasantly surprised by the Smooth & Shine. Its not overly powerful and the Ionic plus Ceramic features will leave your hair less frizzy and smoother than a hair dryer without these features. A 2.4 meter is also welcome at this price range. You will also not have to worry about it feeling heavy on your arm during use as its only 500 grams.
What we did not like about the 5542DU Power Smooth
Firstly there are no speed settings with this dryer. One setting does medium temperature/slower speed and the other does high temperature/fast speed. The cool setting is also in the setting slider. Considering the people who are looking at this hair dryer will just be looking for some thats cheap and drys hair well enough though then these small negatives wont be much of a problem.
Pros
Cons
- 2200w motor
- Ionic, Ceramic and Tourmaline features
- Comes with a cool setting
- 3 year guarantee
- Very low price
- 2.4 meter power cable
- Not many adjustable heat & speed settings
Final Verdict
So we have reviewed a lot of the big brand hair dryer products and we can honestly say that the Tresemme lineup are the most similar of the lot. There really is not much difference between them and we can honestly say for the price they all do the job as you would expect. You will be happy with whatever one above you end up purchasing. As we always tend to do though here at Ehaircare, if someone put them all on a table and told us to take one home then we would take the Tresemme 5542DU Power Smooth and Shine. We just feel like this hair dryer is the best all rounder with its decent 2200w motor, Ionic and Ceramic features plus the 2.4 meter power cable. As we say though, there really is not much difference between the various models.
